Fret not folks, pls don’t press the panic button and start to evacuate!
What I am going to show you next are not real dragons. ^^
They are however, one of the oldest “relic” you probably can find in Singapore. – playgrounds modeled after the mystical creature known as dragons.
I bet you will probably feel a little sentimental after seeing the below images if you have been living in or visited Singapore in the early 1980s. =)
A sad fact but these playgrounds (featuring dragons) are fast becoming “extinct” in Singapore.
I reckon that there are only 2-3 of such playgrounds left in Singapore.
When I was young, I always spend most of my time after school hanging around the area, back then it was a popular spot amongst kids.
Guess kids these days prefer an ipad then having a little joy ride on the pony in the playground ^^
I guess It’s great that I took up photography.
It’s timely because I can re-capture my childhood memories convert them into images and store them into my little blog so that I can share with the future generations that once a upon a time, the mystical creatures known as dragons actually came and graced our little sleepy neighborhood. =)
Looks like a fun place
Hi Nuvofelt, sure is!
Back then, it was every kid’s favorite playground =)
Looks like a fine use of outside space, you have captured the spirit of the place wonderfully!
Hi Chris Major,
Felt so motivated after hearing such an encouraging comment from you.
Thank you sir! =)
Nice set of photographs. The dragons are great but I really like the last shot best! Cheers…
Hi Little bits of Sheffield,
Its really an honor for a novice photographer to received awesome comments from you! =)
i love the fantasy element the dragon theme brings to the playground, we all have our own dragons in side us, great to get familiar with them in play! good post, and thanks for visiting my blog too :)
You are right dadirri, totally agree with you on the part where we all have our own dragons!
Thanks for your lovely comments! =)
Excellent photos
Thanks machisan!
it’s sad that such playgrounds are getting replaced by the “safe” type :( last year, the m1 fringe festival did a photo series (“school of hard knocks”) on such playgrounds too.
Hi Olivia,
Yes, I agree with you, its very sad that these are slowly fading out.
They ought to keep a few! – I think they are still the coolest and the most iconic looking playgrounds around Singapore!
No dragons, but I remember the pony on the spring my daughter used to ride on. Now my grandkids play soccer in the back yard during the summer or play basketball, go bike riding or inline skating, but they live in a small town and there’s no playground like that around.
What fantastic shots, happily following you now!
Thanks James! It’s really my privilege to have you click on that “follow” button =)
It was my pleasure! Hope you have a look at my stuff too
Lovely the pics..
Thanks for sharing of your childhood memories..
My pleasure Bams!
I love the dragons. Your photos are great :) Judy
Hi Northern Narratives,
Thanks for your great comments! =)
AMAZING ♥
Hi annuleeinx3
Thanks!
The third photo has a mystical quality. I really like that one. It is sad that kids get caught up in the computer world and often forget their ability to creat their own fun these days.
Hi ljr,
Thanks for your comments! I have to agree with you on this, sad but true.
It is however, a sign of times have changed ^^
Those dragons are great! Good that you have documented them and thanks for posting!
Hi Steve,
Thanks for visiting for humble blog too! =)
It is great that you are documenting these playgrounds’ existence! Thanks for the share. :)
Hi Sheila,
Always nice to hear comments from great photographers like yourself!

Hi Sameward,
On behalf of the “dragons”, Hi to you too!! =)

No way sameward, you take awesome shots urself too! =)
Ahhh. Thanks, then. Looking forward to be friends with you here. Uhm, will stay on the look out for your posts, too.
Lovely! I wish I had had dragons in my playground as a child :) I’m sure I’ve ridden hundreds of little ponies though. Very nostalgic.
Hi Cat Philips,
Ahh, childhood memories, Thanks so much for sharing! =)
I have a lot of childhood memories playing with these rides when I was a child, the whole fantasy of riding an actual horse like in the movies :D
Hi Andy,
Feeling nostalgic too? Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with me =)
Great pictures! What an awesome design for a playground.
Hi Chris,
Thanks for your awesome comments!
Love the last photograph.
Hi Michel Koven,
Thanks for visiting! Glad you like that shots here! =)
If I were a kid, I’d be in love with that slide! I’m used to the boring just a ramp kinda slide… fun!
Hi jaurbanphoto,
My thoughts exact, the slide’s here is really a hit with the kids here =)
Very cool, wish we had those kinds of playgrounds when I was a kid..:-)
Hi Ed,
Thanks for visiting!

Really Awesome Dragons – Lovable
Thanks!! I just realize the dragons are more popular with the readers than ishooteditnblog! ^^
Yes they Are ! Nice Post !
Love these! When I visited China last year I also noticed that dragons formed part of a lot of place-names and play-areas.
As for parks – I loved them as a little kid, and I’m definitely buying a house near a park for my kids, one day when it is time.
Hi barefoot_med_student,
A house with a lovely park nearby is always awesome. I hope you will be able to get your dream house soon! =)
I was in Singapore in the 80s. Just wonderful :)
Hi roughseasinthemed,
Thanks for visiting and do swing by Singapore soon, I’m sure you will like this little island all over again =)
ah, you aren’t the first one to remind me of the beauty of Singapore and tempt me to return.
But for now, I’m where I am. Looking forward seeing your photos of your home though :)
Thanks for your comment. You yourself are a terrific photographer, and I look forward to following your work for some inspiration. It just so happens that I have a special place in my heart for Singapore as well. I lived there when I was very young — 1990-1993 — my earliest memories all take place in Singapore :)
Hi Kikipuffs,
Then I’m quite sure you will still remember the very warm weather in this little tropical island! =)
I must say that I really cannot deserved to be called terrific photographer, still got lots to learn so do swing by often to have a good laugh at my shots ^^
Miss playgrounds like these. and then there’s the elephant, penguin and watermelon ones as well!
Ahh, yes. Really kinda missed them =(
The playgrounds nowadays looked so boring!
It’s great you are doing this…the memories need to be preserved if the playgrounds aren’t!
I love the dragons…nice photos…
Super cool! Thanks for checking out my blog :)
Thanks Sarah! Loved your blog too! Very interesting (and way awesome than mine!) =)
Neat… these playgrounds are much more original than the one’s we have in Canada (for the most part). Thanks for sharing!
Hi Pierre,
Glad you enjoyed reading it! =)

Hi Joelle,
Yep, those were really the days.
Sometimes I really wish that I can turn back time and travel back to Singapore in the 1980s again ^^
Love the last photo, caught my eye when I checked out your blog! I’m inspired to photograph my local playgrounds in search for nostalgic play equipment :) keep blogging! xo
Hi thedormouseteapot!
So glad that you like some of my shots here!
This lovely compliment pushes yours truly, the novice photographer to take even more nicer pics! =)
Just so you know, I have nominated you for the “Lovely Blogger” award. Thank you for letting me look into your world and congratulations! I’m still working on the post, but you are there!
Hi Marilyn Armstrong,
Wow! Thank you so much! I really don’t think I deserved the nomination ^^
You really made my day! =)
I miss childhood days. I wish I could play around with those even though I’m six-foot tall now.
Excellent photos!
Hi ejomlexus!
Oh yes, I do agree. Sometimes I really wish I can turn back the clock just once to enjoy my childhood once again!
